Spay/Neuter Updates
GW was very easy to load into the carrier. All I had to do was pluck him off the curtain rod in the bathroom. He's a fairly tame feral.
LG has never been handled before, except for an occasional quick pet by my mom when she's feeding her. My mom trapped her in the bathroom and I entered with a towel, intending to scoop her up in it. I did, but lost my grip and she scrambled up my face and went flying through the air. Literally. I had no idea kittens could fly, but this one did. After checking my face for damage (blood dripping from large scratch on my nose and upper lip), I tried again with the towel and got a better grip this time. Here she is...LG (Little Gray).
There are a few people who've offered to help with the spay/neuter of this little colony, and any help whatsoever is greatly appreciated. The rescues and shelters haven't been able to help me yet. Their programs are full, busy, and underfunded. I'm still trying for cheaper options, but right now we're using my regular vet. Some of the discount vets and clinics would be an option if my mom could get the kitties there, but she can't. She has 24/7 care of a friend confined to a hospital bed in her living room. These clinics are only open at times when I'm at work, and it's quite the ordeal to trap these little guys. My vet is open nights and weekends, and flexibility is a necessity here. We're thinking that for Tiny and Spot to get fixed, we're going to bait the humane trap that I bought for this purpose, and place it in the doorway from the patio to the living room. My mom has trained the kitties to come in the house for treats, though she's never been able to touch Spot or Tiny. Then, as soon as one, or both, are trapped, off they go for spays. After that, we'll leave the trap by the side of the house to catch the two adult males. Once the momcat brings her kittens over, we'll just grab them. The momcat also has an injured tail. Half of it is missing, and the end of it still bleeds sometimes. She's never been touched by humans either, but really needs medical attention. Because some of you have asked (THANK YOU!), here's the PayPal button:

Good luck. Always watch those feral cats. The Woman has seen one fly like that and it was pretty scary!

Did you ask your vet about a discount? Our vet will give a discount for a "feral" cat if it's going to be returned to the outside. It still more expensive than the rescues and shelters, but at least it's something.

This vet sends out coupons in the local mailings. We have some of the coupons and, even though they say Monday through Friday only, the vet is honoring them for us. These are only $15 off each spay/neuter, but it helps.

Wow, flying ferals!
You are an angel here on earth, to help these kitties.
I hope you get some medical attention for Momma's tail!
I wish I had some $ to send you right now, but Little Isis and Petey are going to our vet on Tuesday... maybe I can do a raffle or something to help?

We just made a donation and hope it eases your burden. It is so wonderful of you all to do this!
(Your costs to neuter in LA are so much higher than here! Yikes)

Poor LG doesn't know that what is happening is going to help her in the long run. I hope you're able to catch momcat to have her tail looked at too.

Ouch, sorry about the scratch from LG!
I am so glad there are people like you around who are prepared to do so much to help these feral kitties (who knows, maybe GW at least will decide being feral isn't the way to go...) I donated a bit too.
Went to dinner with a friend on Friday night and met her "new" cat for the first time - a fluffy ginger boy, so sweet. He was a stray tom cat who came into their kitchen for food one day and decided to move in. He was an unneutered bag of bones with weeping sores, a flea allergy, all kinds of infections and problems - they spent £1200 at the vet's although some of that was covered because they got him insured. Now he just wants to sit on a lap and purr 24 hours a day, he is adorable! (And far from being a bag of bones any more, the vet just told them he could do with losing a few kilos as he has a little belly!)

If you'd like, I'd be happy to switch my 5% of PurrPrints on etsy profits donation to your cause until the costs of spay/neuter have been met in full, at which time I'll switch it back to my regular charities (I don't know how long this would end up taking, of course, since it depends on how many sales I get on etsy and that always fluctuates).
It looks like a number of people have already donated so I don't know if you still need the help or not--let me know if you do.

Have you tried spayusa.org? Many years ago when I needed help spaying strays in my yard, they helped match what I had to help get all the cats fixed? Its worth inquiring about :)
